CM9798 Retirement Home – Part 12: Escape to Victory

Hello and welcome to the end of season 4 here at the Retirement Home. Things have rarely been bleaker for me as a manager. We’ve scored 15 goals in 30 games as our veterans have ran out of legs. It’s fair to say we’re finding a second season at First Division level extremely tough and we need to make up 9, realistically 10, points in 16 games to stay up.

CM9798 Retirement Home – Part 11: Down but not out

Good day to you and welcome back to the Retirement Home. You join us in October of season 4, where our team of veterans are finding things very hard going. After a relatively positive three seasons, it looks like age may have finally caught up with us. We’re propping up the table but at least we’re only 3 points from safety. Maybe we’ll get our goals scored column into double figures…

CM9798 Retirement Home – Part 10: The only way is up

Hello! Welcome to season 4 of the CM9798 Retirement Home. The old boys have done me proud so far, securing successive promotions to Division 1 and then just about holding their own in the second tier. The First Division is difficult to get out of, it hasn’t got any easier over the years either. With a set of 35+ year old veterans it is going to be a huge challenge. With a number of retirements last season it’s time to try and plug some gaps and hopefully find some quality – however, we have a huge debt and once again will be restricted to freebies…

CM9798 Retirement Home – Part 9: Survival of the fittest

Good day to you, fans of the past. Here in the Retirement Home, we’re about to enter the final stretch of season 3. Consecutive promotions were as unlikely as they were impressive, but the ageing bones of this lot have struggled with life in Division 1. I’ve had to abandon the cavalier style so that Alan Knill plays as part of a back three. I sicken me. Still, it’s all about staying up. We have a 7 point cushion.

CM9798 Retirement Home – Part 7: One Direction

Greetings! Welcome to season 3 of the Retirement Home. We’re two for two on the promotion front, having started in Division 3 with no players. With a squad made up from players aged 35 and above, we stormed Division 3 then stole a promotion from Division 2 thanks to a very late playoff push and a memorable Wembley win. As usual, a host of retirements has left us with a job on our hands to be promoted again. I’ll go on record right now and say survival is my only aim.

Let’s see who we’ve managed to tempt for one last shot at glory:

CM9798 Retirement Home – Part 6: Final Sprint

Hello! It’s the end of season two for the Retirement Home and whilst this will be the end of the adventure for some of these veterans of the game, others have one more chapter to write. Can we mount a promotion challenge from this midtable position? Our form has improved since I moved the wingbacks back to full back and Ian Rush remembered a time when he used to be on of Europe’s best forwards.
