The Retirement Academy – Part 21: Happy Hour

Ahh the end of Season 7, the most finely poised of the seasons. Granted we are nowhere near achieving our aim of overhauling Ajax at the top of this infernal league but we are above PSV, so that’s a start. I’m not even sure the gap to Ajax is getting smaller year on year but nevertheless, we are still in the hunt for a European place next season either by league position or, if you will suspend reality for a minute, winning either the Pints Cup or the UEFA Cup. I won’t hold my breath.

The Retirement Academy – Part 20: Deal or No Deeley

Hello! Welcome back to the Retirement Academy, where a team of 5 oldies and 5 youngies (and a keeper) are trying to take over the Dutch League. Toppling Ajax was the original target but frankly getting anywhere near them would ne a start. We sit 10 points adrift as we pick things up in season 7…

The Retirement Academy – Part 18: Hold your nerve

Greetings! It’s the end of another season for the Retirement Academy and I’ve got a good feeling that this is the season we actually make noticeable progress. The Retirement Academy – Part 16: Not enough pints

Welcome back! Season 6 is upon us here in Holland. The Retirement Academy managed to finish 6th, a sizeable improvement on previous seasons but narrowly short of European football. I think. I might be surprised but Holland isn’t as forthcoming with European places as other nations – especially when Heerenveen win the bloody Pints Cup.

The Retirement Academy – Part 15: Micker Wins

Good morning to you! Ahh the run in episode, which is really hard to get excited about in Holland because it is practically half the season. I blame the Pints Cup for this. Anyway, it’s January, the Retirement Academy are 5th, yes FIFTH and chasing European football. I hope 5th is good enough, I’ll be honest, I don’t know for sure. Here’s the state of play where we pick things up.
