Hello! Welcome back to Academy life. Last week, season 13 got underway and the CM9798 Academy made a reasonable start to life defending their league title. We sit just behind Everton in the table and have already secured our place in the last 8 of the Champions League.
As luck would have it, Everton visit the Arena next.
We’re not hitting the back of the net as frequently as normal and Everton’s goalkeeper comes away with man of the match. Still, it keeps us in touch with them.
Derby are in the bottom three so it’s a great chance to put pressure on Everton. McBoyaboy gives us the lead but then it’s all downhill. Carr-Lawton will be scoring past us even in retirement and a defeat is hard to take but not undeserved.
At least we’re through in Europe. I’m able to rotate the squad but my word, it’s a disaster. Anderton junior gets injured in the first minute and a feeble performance sees us go 4-0 down. We pull one back but it’s a thrashing. It’s a good job it doesn’t matter.
Thankfully we’re back to our best against Hull. Three of the front four get on the scoresheet and I’m happy again.
I give the reserves another chance in the Pointless Cup and they repay me by being 2-0 down inside 7 minutes. It finishes 3-0. The board are furious, for some reason.
We’re back to winning ways away to Leeds. Powell is brilliant and his brace sends us top of the table again. Good lad.
Those reserves though. Hammered in Malmo. Woeful.
It’ll be Ajax in the quarters, that’ll be nasty too. Mind you most of that draw looks tricky.
The final table for completeness. So pleased we started like a train!
Powell meanwhile becomes the first Academy player to score for England. In true Academy style he then gets injured.
Sheff Utd don’t play Iversen these days but they do have former Academy man Dr Death Steve Williams. He has chances but doesn’t take them, but Canas heads in from a corner to give us a priceless three points.
We spend Christmas in Sheffield, Ike is too cheap to pay for two trips. It’s a long week, I won’t lie. We play out a 0-0 draw in the steel city and then head home, to wherever that is.
The FA Cup sees us at home to Division 2 side Ipswich. Giggsy regen gives us the lead and when Lukic doubles the lead, everything is good. We lose Rennie to an injury and when Ipswich pull it back to 2-2, I’m furious. McCallum and Powell are sent on and the England man lasts three minutes before departing injured. Playing with 10, McCallum looks to have won it for us but they equalise and I just give up. There’s 10,000 people watching this crap.
At least that was a cup game. There’s barely double that in for a home game with Man Utd. It finishes 0-0, so maybe they knew something.
The replay with Ipswich is a waste of time. We’re 4-0 up inside half an hour and renders the events of 10 days ago pointless. Except for the injuries, they’re annoying.
Another 0-0, this time with Man City. No wonder nobody turns up to watch us.
Blackburn at home in the cup and Anderton junior scores and Lukic adds a second. Here comes the last 16. No? Two late goals mean we’re off to Blackburn in a replay. For goodness sake.
Arsenal want one of my idiots. The rules say I can’t reject it and frankly he’s terrible when he plays. Goodbye.
His replacement is called Keith. There aren’t enough players called Keith.
Back to the league and a home game with Aston Villa. McCallum gives us the lead, Anderton junior goes off injured again and they equalise. I’m starting to get a little annoyed.
That replay we could have avoided actually isn’t a disaster. Colomba and Hool get rare goals and it’s a place in round five.
Sheff Wed away is not easy. That’ll have to wait for next week.
Our final league match of the week is a trip to Birmingham. We’re on the back foot for the majority of the game but Giggs junior climbs off the bench to equalise. Alfonso junior had a one match ban and we really missed him.
He’ll be back for the FA Cup game next but that will have to wait for next time. Anderton junior is out for 3 months, Powell and Lukic a couple of weeks and a month for Quaranta. We’re second on goal difference, which I am delighted with after a less than impressive update.
The board are just pleased. That really annoys me, we started with nothing, won the league and are still in the Champions League. What more do they want? We’re never going to win every game.
Next week will be the last update before we make way for the CM9798 Cup. Hopefully we can finish with a flourish but we’re in need of something to kick start some form. Everything is a struggle at the moment. See you next week!
